Thumb-actuated miter stops facilitate simple adjustments at the most common angles. View larger. | Compound Feature for Precise Miters and Bevels Hitachi designed the C12FDH for versatile, easy use. The thumb-actuated positive miter stops for simple miter adjustments at the most common angles between zero and 52 degrees to the left and right. This design allows you to easily change the angle of the cutting blade for creating miters in crown molding and other trim pieces. The bevel scale ranges from zero to 48 degrees to the left and right, allowing your material to stay in place while you flip the saw head to make opposing cuts, and the saw head bevels to the right or left, also allowing the material to stay securely in place for cutting efficiency. After your major bevel angle is secured, a micro-bevel adjustment knob can be used to dial in a precise angle without the weight of the saw head compromising accuracy. The 12-inch TCT saw blade (included) makes easy work of delicate trim and other woodwork, and the tall, pivoting aluminum fence stands at a height of 5-1/8 inches to allow for accurate vertical cutting of crown molding and cutting of large workpieces up to 2-5/16 inches high and 5-21/32 inches deep. Laser Marker Technology for Perfect Cuts Everytime Hitachi equipped the C12FDH with its exclusive Laser Marker System, which can be activated before the blade is in motion for exact alignment and predictable blade placement. The laser marker is easily adjustable to suit your preferences, simply line up the laser with your mark on the workpiece, and the saw blade will make an exact cut along the laser guide. As long as your measurements are right, your cuts will be, too! Chock-Full of User-Friendly Features The C12FDH has plenty of features to help you make the perfect cut the first time. To start, it has a powerful 15-amp motor that generates a no-load speed of up to 4,000 RPM to smoothly and easily cut through even the toughest hardwoods. For precise, safe cutting, a splinter guard behind the fence increases safety and reduces tear-out for clean, finished cuts, and a comfortable horizontal handle with a vibration-reducing elastomer grip prevents slippage and keeps you in control at all times. Additionally, a large base provides support and balance to prevent material from warping, and a built-in clamping system holds your workpiece in place. An added bonus, easily accessible carbon brushes will help your saw perform for the long term. The Hitachi C12FDH measures 24-5/8 x 30-23/32 x 27 inches and weighs 46.3 pounds. Durably built, this tool is backed with an industry-leading five-year warranty. Glad I picked the Hitachi! May 1, 2010 Corey G (Spokane, WA USA) While reading reviews I narrowed my choices down to this Hitachi and the similar 12" DeWalt. I chose the Hitachi over the DeWalt for several reasons. First being price vs features; the Hitachi has more built-in features like the double bevel; It wouldn't be a deal breaker not to have since my old one is single bevel, but I'm glad this one has it - it's much easier to change the bevel than to move the saw if you're all set up on a jobsite. Second is the laser. This was also not a deal breaker, but the dewalt doesn't come with one, though you can add one for about $69; it was an important feature to me since it just seems to make the job go faster - when it's accurate, and the laser on this saw is DEAD ON - and it is visible even outdoors in the sun; something some of the less expensive contenders can't say.
Some other pros:
* All the movements of the saw are solid and smooth. (Many of the other brands feel cheap!)
* Angle adjustments on this saw are simple and easy and the fence pivots out easily on both sides for bevel cuts.
* The dust bag on this saw ACTUALLY COLLECTS THE SAWDUST! Sadly it seems rare for a tool with a dust bag to actually work, but this one does.
* The blade comes down right in the center of the laser mark, every time.
* The motor is solid and relatively quiet.
* The blade that the saw comes with seems to do well with a variety of woods and even after hundreds of cuts still cuts smooth, though I would get a better blade for fine woodwork.
The cons:
* It is clunky to move, and heavy. If it were one or the other, it wouldn't be that bad but it is both. Even though the weight isn't all that much, the saw is difficult to carry through doorways or for any distance without bumping it into your shins (or the doorway); I usually flip it up and carry it up over my shoulder after I'm through the doorway or gate, which makes moving it easier, but I wish it was a little more mobile-friendly, I take it on and off the job site every day. Empty the dust bag before it fills up or you will have sawdust all over you.
* The clamp that it comes with is useless and cumbersome, it seems like an afterthought for Hitachi.
* The miter adjustment knob gets in the way when moving and although you could swap it out for the bolt the saw comes with, this would be a pain to do every day to move it.
Overall if you're looking for a solid, easy to use quality miter saw with the features of a more expensive saw, this is definitely the saw for you. Even knowing the cons of this saw I would buy it again in a heartbeat. I'm looking forward to using it for years to come.
Great Saw February 17, 2010 Alexander D. Cummings (Winchester, Va.) The saw arrived quickley and in excellent condition. Set up was a breeze, it was dead on out of the box. Compared to the Craftsman 10" Miter saw this Hitachi is up a hundred notches on the ladder. Again GREAT SAW.
Great Saw November 25, 2009 T. Wayman (SLC, Utah) I received this saw and it operates very well. The included blade isn't the best but that can be replaced. The saw came pretty close to being in alignment but that can be adjusted. None of the accessory items that are supposed to come standard were in the box. The instruction manual, front angle lock, dust bag, standard clamp, and wrench kit were not included. I contacted Hitachi however and they sent all missing parts within the week. The only thing I wish is that I could have gotten a paper copy of the manual. I just don't have a computer in my shop that often. I will probably upgrade the blade at some point, but the work I am doing now is pretty rough so the stock blade will work for a while.
hitachi compound miter saw November 12, 2009 Aaron M. Brown (atlanta.georgia) unlike some of the other feedback my saw came in good condition pretty fast. I like it for among other 2 reasons. 1 the saw is not too heavy to carry around to different jobsites. 2 it was for 30 dollars cheaper than lowes. However, I do have one complaint the laser light is very to nearly impossible to in direct or near direct sunlight. Otherwise a good saw.
Excellent saw...shipped in great condition October 7, 2009 P. Fox (Mobile, AL United States) I bought this saw as a re-conditioned model and am very happy with the results. Not only did I save money but the saw looks brand new. There are no scuff marks or blemishes at all. The saw came packed on all sides with strong form fitting styrofoam As other reviewers have mentioned the saw cut very accurately right out of the box and is very easy to use. The instructions do have a few rough spots but overall are not much different than other manuals. I would definitely buy this saw again and will recommend to friends.
